Just before Christmas, Etsy introduced a new and fabulous search feature: Shop Local. This is good one, folks. Not only is it fun and flash like all the other new features, it’s actually useful! All you do is type a location into the provided search bar and voila! The sellers listing that as their locale are displayed. It shows the last 100 shops in the area to be updated.
What are the reasons for Shop Local? The Storque announcement states, “We’re finding more and more people are interested in making purchases closer to home, whether to reduce their carbon footprint, support small businesses in their community, or to benefit their local economy.” Shipping is generally faster, too. Sometimes you can even arrange to meet the seller to pick up your item and eliminate shipping cost altogether.
I was pleasantly surprised to find there are over 100 shops listing Tucson as their location since there are only about a dozen in the Sonoran Artisans Street Team. Take a peek at who your local Etsians are. You may find some fabulous new sellers right in your own back yard.
